About Us
Hi, my name is Dan Stephens, and I am the founder of Natural Balance Holistics. Here’s a little information about me and how I got to where I am today.
I first became interested in alternative health when I was 14, using different teas and herbs to help with my stress headaches. I had tried normal medication, but none of it seemed to really do the trick for me. After that, I started looking for more alternative ways to help myself as well as others. When I turned 18 I started training in as many different therapies as I could. I studied Aromatherapy, Swedish body massage, Reflexology, and Indian head massage with a bit of Anatomy and Physiology to top it all off. Sadly, I got into a pretty bad car accident a few weeks before my courses ended, and was unable to stand upright for about 2 months. So I was then unable to finish my case studies and be officially qualified. Long story short, I had all the training but no qualifications.
I had to wait several years for my insurance claim to pay out before I was able to afford to re-do all my courses. During this time I started researching more and more about complementary health, and that’s when my journey with Reiki began. I even began taking courses in science with an open university to make sure I was still up to scratch when I was able to get back to holistic therapies.
Finally the day came when I could afford to work on getting officially qualified. I started with the basics: ear candles, Swedish massage, Indian head massage, and hot stone massage. Then adding aromatherapy and reflexology shortly after. Once I had completed these courses, I felt I needed more. So I trained in the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Matrix Reimprinting with the UK master trainer Karl Dawson. It was then that I decided to leave my hometown area to live and work somewhere new. So I went to Cambridge, and carried on learning.
While there I studied advanced massage techniques and some more advanced aromatherapy techniques. Eventually I moved farther north to live with my partner, and started working in a spa. While there I trained in some beauty based techniques like, body scrubs, body wraps, and male waxing. Not wanting to feel stagnant, I also added Hawaiian massage and metamorphic techniques to my toolbelt along with some more advanced aromatherapy techniques and aromatic medicine.
My final schooling in the UK was with an awesome school in Brighton, where I studied myofascial release, orthopaedic assessment, and some trigger point work. Taking my massage to a whole new level. After this I moved to America with my partner for 18 months. Sadly, without having a full visa, I couldn’t really do to much work wise. So I had a lot of free time to study and work on some of their CPD courses. It was fascinating to see the difference between the two countries and how they view complementary health.
I’m now back in the UK, and have added Neuro skeletal realignment therapy, crystal healing, meditation, mindfulness, grounding and breathwork to my treatment list. I have also become an official teacher with Natural Therapeutics. My journey has been long. Filled with ups and downs, but I know it’s all had a part to play in making me who I am today. Thank you for reading this and taking the time to get to know me a little better. Hopefully I’ll be able to speak to you soon!
